We want to give the blind and visually impaired the possibility to take in information. That’s why we translate letters into braille. But we do a lot more. When you are blind you for example don’t see images. That is why we make pictures tactile which means tangible. How do we do this?
Step 1: Adapting the image
In a lot of the cases an existing image isn’t ready to be made tactile. The following picture for example needs some changes.
A picture that we recieve that needs a redesign
A picture that is to be made tangible should not have any dept. In this picture there is depth because the person in the middle is standing behind the other persons. Another thing that is important is that the image does not communicate too much. Our graphic designers know how to take the main message out of a picture. The main message in this picture is the handshake between the boy and the trainer. Our graphic designers made the following picture.
The edited picture
Step 2: Making the picture tactile
The next step is that the renewed image is made tactile. Different parts of the picture will be made in difference of height so that the message of the picture is understood well. This is the picture at the end of the process. The picture now is tactile.
A tactile picture because of the differnence in height
